| prom tonight.
I kinda miss Xanga.
| | |
| my cat's getting put down tomorrow.
He's only 8, but he's got diabetes and arthritis, and he isn't feeling very good, and neither am I.
It's hard. So I spent the afternoon hanging out with Piper and Max,
trying to cheer myself up by laughing at Laguna Beach. Yay sad journal
entry.
School/life is going as well as could be expected. The school is still
dragging its metaphorical feet over whether I can switch into French
II, god damn its black heart, and if I don't manage to be able to take
the midterm and final by the end of the week, I probably won't have
enough hours by the end of the year to be able to pass the class. The
byproduct of which is, I hate guidance, and if I have to stay in Mrs.
Cordell-Robinson's class for the rest of the year because of their
negligence, I will be most displeased.
It's my fault, I suppose, for using the new counselor (the one i'm
assigned to) instead of Bill Carter. He knows how to get shit done.
Well, whatever. Government and Statistics and Spanish and English and
everything else go on. Parties at Doug's go on. That 70's Show from 6-8
every evening goes on. Me sleeping in the basement goes on. La di dah.

| free rich text editing... how about that.
http://anon.salon.speedera.net/anon.salon/mp3s/cummings011402.mp3
E. E. Cummings reads four poems. I believe they are "a man who had
fallen among thieves", "next to of course god america i", "my sweet old
etcetera", and "since feeling is first". I've never really cared for
the first, but the others are fantastic.
Guess which obsessive Beulah completist snagged not one, but TWO Beulah
b-sides last night? Me. I am stoked. Clare got to meet Ted Leo, though,
so she still wins. If you want 'em, holler.
School starts tomorrow. Obligatory bitching, etc.

| wow, it's been a long time. 4 and a half months, maybe?
Needless to say, a lot has happened. I won't bother going into detail, but:
I graduated the 11th grade.
I attended the Young Writers Workshop at UVa, and I had a bitchin'
time. Met the eight other coolest guys in the whole entire world (go
310!), and a whole lot of other cool people too. Nearly hooked up as
well. You can't win 'em all.
I got into jazz, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Dexter Gordon in particular.
I turned 17.
I got really into writing poetry, as open and free-verse as possible. poetry here.
I rocked a birthday party that included drunken
friends-of-friends-of-friends-of-friends showing up at my house and
trying to crash said party, along with a secret cigarette run to Wawa
(not for me, for others), and poker. Oh, and Indian food.
I got a manual typewriter, and it is beautiful.
That list is in vague chronological order, I guess.
I've got ongoing AP summer work, which is a major buzzkill, I've been
sleeping til 4 or 5 in the afternoon, and I'm going to Houston on
Saturday to visit Rice University as well as family.
Music, thrift stores and poetry are still my holy trinity.
the end. Questions? The comment box is there for a reason, children.

| the giant awakes... and thirsts for bloooooood!
it's been a weird past few days.
* prom, or the lack thereof: matt, nicole, sean, gen, jeni, gen's
friend josh, martha, and I get all dolled up and get Indian food, which
is delicious, but expensive as a mutha. i got some lamb vindalu and
sampled matt's flaming snapper, plus had some Indian bread stuff. it
was really good; I don't think i've ever enjoyed ethnic food so much.
the proposed "we're too cool for prom" party did not go quite as
planned, but that was mainly matt's dad's fault (namely, because he
stayed in town). then again, none of our plans ever really work out
anyway, so it's par for the course. so basically, sean, nicole, matt
and I went back to matt's, and we essentially ended up watching much of
the Chapelle's Show marathon ("that's the junk in the trunk!"), and
some of Samurai Champloo, which was a little dull. However, it was made
by the makers of Cowboy Bebop, so it's worth keeping an eye out for,
and Nicole swore up and down that the first episode was better.
Sean and I then went and crashed Jenamols' party at about 3 in the
morning, after a lengthy interlude of trying to find her address in the
first place. Jen's mom was apparently really freaked out by us showing
up; she thought we were stoned out of our minds. Laughs all around
there; I always look stoned. Boredom and stonedness look a lot alike with me.
the party was really tame, but sean was my ride home, so I didn't have
much choice in the affair, and besides, I would have been bored out of
my mind all by myself at Matt's for the rest of the night. not much
happened at jen's; apparently, we had just missed jeni, josh, gen and
martha, who had been there previously. after the rather uneventful
night, I got a ride with Beth and her boyfriend (with whom I am rather
unfamiliar, both; bit of an uncomfortable car ride) to St. George's,
where I proceeded to sleep straight through church. Best way to spend a
Sunday morning, anyway.
Apparently, prom was a bit lame; only a couple of people got busted for
drinkin', and the highlight of the various afterparties was,
apparently, Katherine Harris throwing up on Zach Zorn. Afterprom was
not as bad as feared, apparently; most people were a bit put-off by the
idea of after-prom at a bowling alley beforehand, but the people who
went had a good time evidently, so more power to them.
the end of the year approacheth; i need to clear the obstacles of my
history LAP and physics circuitry project, still, and exams I suppose,
and my pre-calc test on friday, but other than that I'm pretty much
coasting for the rest of the year, and that's how it should be. Sha sha.
yeah, so the new White Stripes record is a huge steaming pile of suck.
don't even bother buying it, it really is a pile of shit. Don't be
tempted by the pure bossness of "Blue Orchid", which sounds to my
trained ear like Michael Jackson guesting on a DFA1979 song; the rest
of the album sounds NOTHING like it. Jack has evidently developed a
fondness for the "marimba" setting on his Casio, and so there's a
really irritating Caribbean-sounding current running underneath all of
the songs, which were plently bad without it; the crappy, irritating
synth just makes it worse. I have never been both so surprised and so
disappointed by a record in my entire life; if Jack White is trying to
find a new direction to take his tired neo-blues sound, he should
really look somewhere else.
On the other hand, the old Hold Steady album, "Almost Killed Me", which
I just "picked up" the other day, is rad to the max. It's got solos,
storytelling, and the lyric "I've been tryin' to get people to call me
Sunny D 'cos I've got the good stuff that kids go for" (currently on
display in my header, because it would totally fine with me if people
started calling me Sunny D). As you can see, I'm listening to it.
Definitely get that, if you haven't already.
Also two great things: "Push Barman to Open Old Wounds" and the new
Fountains of Wayne b-sides collection. Can I get a "hell yeah"?
Collected B&S singles AND Fountains of Wayne b-sides, etc. My god,
June will be a good month.
